The Municipality of La Matanza de Acentejo and the Association of Caregivers, Relatives and Friends of People with Dependency, Alzheimer’s and other Dementias (Acufade) recently inaugurated on the second floor of the Farmer’s, Wine and Crafts Market the new Prevention Unit for Healthy Aging. A service in which a team of experts will carry out diagnoses and individualized work proposals to ensure that the elderly from Matanzas have a more active and healthy old age.
Acufade is an association of roots from Matanzas specialized in the provision of services to dependent people which with this project launches its first unit focused on the field of prevention and promotion of health in the elderly. This entity has had the backing of the Social Value Award 2021 from the Cepsa Foundation and the City of La Matanza itself, “which makes it possible to provide a letter of free services in these new dependencies that the City Council has enabled through its Social Welfare Area.”
The team of specialists that will manage this unit will carry out, individually, assessments of the status of people with mild physical or cognitive impairment. They will also study their eating habits in order to be able to elaborate, according to the information collected, nutritional, physical-functional and cognitive stimulation plans that favor an optimal state of health among the elderly, “with an eye on containing or slowing down the processes of deterioration that could be underway”, they point out from the Consistory.
This first Prevention Unit for Healthy Aging is located on the second floor of the La Matanza Farmer’s, Wine and Crafts Market, next to the main road and very close to the City Hall building matancero.
