SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Board of Directors of the Association of Journalists of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (APT) agreed at its last ordinary meeting to honor Daniel Cerdán Elcid with the ‘Patricio Estévanez y Murphy’ award, in recognition of his professional career.
The winner joins a list that was preceded by Eliseo Izquierdo, Ricardo Acirón, Elfidio Alonso, José Siverio, José Antonio Pardellas, Juan Carlos Carballo and Jorge Bethencourt, according to a note from the association.
With a degree in Information Sciences and a master’s degree in Strategic Planning from the University of La Laguna, he began his professional career as a writer for the newspapers Jornada and El Día, between 1979 and 1987.
He was Director of Communication of the Cabildo de Tenerife until in 1991 he was appointed head of the Cabinet of the Presidency in the same institution.
In the Cabildo he was part of the work team of Adán Martín, who he would follow to the Government of the Canary Islands in 1999, going on to hold the position of Chief of Staff of the Vice Presidency and Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Later he would occupy the position of Vice Minister of Communication, between 2003 and 2007, coinciding with the presidency of Adán Martín. In 2007 he was general director of Radio Televisión Canaria and since 2015 he has been the Transparency Commissioner of the Canary Islands.
CANARY ISLANDS AWARD
The Board of Directors of the APT also agreed to propose Eliseo Izquierdo to the Canarias de Comunicación Award. Born in La Laguna in 1931, he is an honorary member of the Royal Canary Academy of Fine Arts. Graduated in Philosophy and Letters and in Information Sciences, he has been an art critic and editor of the newspapers El Día and La Tarde.
He taught, first at the Instituto de Canarias and later at the School of Journalism at the University of La Laguna.
He is the author of the works ‘Periodistas Canarios’, in three volumes arranged chronologically, and ‘Covering up identity in the Canary Islands’, an extensive publication on the pseudonyms used by personalities from journalism, literature and the arts on the islands. He has also stood out as an author of biographies.
