The candidate of People’s Party to the Presidency of the Cabildo de Tenerife, lope afonsoand the PP candidate for Mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Angel Montanesoffered this Friday, December 23, a press conference together with the Customs House to announce the addition of amendments worth 1.9 million euros to the insular budget of 2023 that will allow the unlocking of the port port project, progress in two projects for the creation of public car parks in the city (in the so-called Plaza de La Constitución and in the plot attached to the bus station, where about a thousand spaces are expected) and improve the image of the eastern highwayone of the main accesses to the municipality.
Montañés explained that “the amendments presented to the insular budget for next year are the reason why the PP has supported its approval” and emphasized what has been achieved for “Cross porta very important tourist municipality for Tenerife and for the entire North, since it generates wealth and jobs”. In his opinion, “the Cabildo must bet on Puerto de la Cruz and these amendments have to do with three vital issues for this city: parking, improving one of the accesses to the municipality and, most importantly, continue working for what should never have stopped, the sports, commercial and tourist port”.
The portuense candidate added that “we understood that it was essential to incorporate this item and to stop forgetting this important infrastructure for the town. The Cabildo could not continue turning its back on the city regarding what we all long for: the new pier”. Montañés warned that “we will continue working so that from the beginning of 2023 everything that has to do with this port is reactivated, after three and a half years of neglect by the Cabildo and carelessness on the part of the mayor.”
The popular ones also incorporated some 900,000 euros more for new car parks and the improvement of the Eastern highway
lope afonso assured that “the recovery of Cross port It must be an unavoidable and urgent duty for the island, which is why within the package of amendments presented by the PP to the insular budget, this city had a special role”. He recalled that “we said that we wanted to make useful politics; that above all are the interest of Tenerife and the people of Tenerife, and that our votes would be at the disposal of the budget project if the priorities that the PP understood were admitted, among which are the improvement of mobility, the recovery of strategic investments and the improvement of territorial investments. That is what these three amendments for Puerto de la Cruz respond to”.
For Afonso, “the serious internal mobility problem suffered by Puerto de la Cruz is evident for decades, so with these amendments it will be possible to advance in these solutions in the form of car parks (300,000 euros) and in the improvement of the false tunnel of Martiánez (600,000 euros)”.
Afonso considers that “the star amendment”, endowed with one million euros, is the one that “has to resume and update the projects that should conclude with the tender for the works of the new sports, commercial and tourist port, especially on its maritime side, as had been advanced” . The PP candidate for the insular Presidency concludes that “doesn’t make any sense to have advanced decisively in the modification of the planning to adapt a good part of the city to that future port and to have obtained historical commitments from the financial and political point of view, so that this infrastructure would remain stopped at the beginning of this mandate with some strange explanations ”.
“Despite the lost time, in the PP we have the firm conviction that this project continues to be valid and necessary to start with the economic and social recovery of the north of Tenerife”, declared Afonso, who advocates that with this item of one million euros “it can already be undertaken, in the coming months, the update of the projects (especially in terms of execution prices) so that this infrastructure is viable and gathers all the functionalities that we demand and the citizens aspire to achieve”.
“As already demonstrated in that great demonstration in Cross portHere we are all convinced that Tenerife needs a strategic infrastructure on its north side that promotes tourist activity, that attracts complementary investment and that recovers this very important strip of sea”, Afonso remarked. The PP undertakes to “be vigilant” so that these steps take shape and the work starts “as soon as possible”, and “so that the Cabildo, whatever the sign of the insular government, continues to be a promoter of this infrastructure Y the technical, political and economic engine so that in the coming years it will be a reality”.
