SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Local Assembly of the PSOE of Arona has unanimously re-elected José Julián Mena as general secretary, who has also received the unanimous support of the Assembly for his proposal for a Local Executive Commission.
José Julián Mena had been ratified as a socialist candidate to revalidate the Mayor’s Office last September by the party bodies; However, it was today, Thursday, when the Management Commission appointed by the PSOE in August 2020 was terminated and the ordinary organs of the party were restored with the support of the militancy.
In addition to the Municipal Executive Commission, the members of the Island Committee have been elected by Arona. The Executive proposed by Mena and supported by the affiliates will be chaired by Francisco García Santamaría, former socialist councilor in Arona between 1995 and 2010.
The general secretary of the Socialists of Arona has indicated that they are very close to an election and they have to “go out and fight for the municipality, for the island, for the Canary Islands and for Spain”.
“We are living in difficult times at the national level in which the extreme right threatens our freedoms and our social State. One only has to see the massive demonstrations of doctors throughout Spain. Also here, in our municipality, we have to raise our voices to demand a hospital public in the complete South, third level and with all specialties. Our people from Arona and the South have the right to quality healthcare,” said Mena.
The mayor of Arona also stressed that it is necessary for all the Socialists to work together to revalidate the absolute majority granted to them by the citizens: “There is a lot of talk about pacts to oust the PSOE from the government, to return to the multi-party pacts of a few years ago years in Arona, to return to the primacy of the interests of some over the interests of the majority in Arona and we have to say a resounding no to all these machinations and we have to say a resounding yes to the public interest, to the rights of citizens , social justice, solidarity and respect for the law”.
