Discover (Closer, the willow) is the title of this year’s calendar that the City Council has distributed among the residents of the municipality, a custom that the government group has maintained for 15 years and which has become a custom for citizens, as well as a practical and functional document because it contains useful telephone numbers, local festivities and a calendar of municipal events.
In its almanac format, residents can enjoy the wonderful photographs of everyday places that hide treasures from every corner of the town, the work of the photographer and psychologist Juanra Alvarez.
Twelve photographs, each with its own meaning, alluding to the festivities, historical heritage, traditions, the landscape or buildings with history, such as the Casa Roja and the church and the Plaza de San Pedro, and which invite you to discover the municipality with another look
Álvarez, points out that “this centennial town meets the conditions, by nature and care, to connect with these virtuous qualities. Beyond visualizing a landscape, there is the old art of realizing, where each tiny place shines for its essence and beauty. Discovering is the challenge. There is nothing to look for and much to find”.
The novelty of this edition is that the almanac comes with the complement of an interactive action, in which, through photography with a QR code, it offers the possibility of viewing a video of the place, accompanied by a pleasant melody, according to the image .
Thus, the months of the year become a trip through the municipality with a macro or very close image of a specific area to discover. In its pages, various enclaves such as the coast, the historical heritage, El Calvario, San José, the General Highway, Ravelo, and the mountains, among others, have their space.
Álvarez emphasizes the cultivation of attentive gaze, that which is so necessary to be able to capture the brilliance and essence of the simplest objects such as rain, birds, a fallen leaf or a bunch of grapes, and turn them into a work of art. art.
It is not the first time that the photographer does it. Last year he captivated his neighbors with Los colors de un pueblo in which each month had a predominant color by capturing the power of attraction of the light of each season of the year in different places, such as the Arenal beach, Las Calderetas mount or La Garañona.
In 2021, he surprised with twelve images of sunsets from different parts of the municipality, also accompanied by a text about the emotions and feelings that can be experienced from each of the chosen places at the end of the day; while in 2020 it chose to carry out an environmental awareness campaign with the Canarian fauna as the protagonist. Each month of the year had the image of the most representative species of the area, from frogs, folelés, goats or chickens.
