Next Thursday all eyes in Tenerife, the Canary Islands and Spain will be focused on the service station the chasnera, which since 2013 has earned the fame of the fountain of fortune. Since July, when the tenths of the Christmas Draw began to be sold, many people from Tenerife, Canaries and tourists have come to the receiver located at kilometer 54 of the South highway in search of luck, while many others, even from Europe, They have called requesting a tenth. It is not for less, La Chasnera has been giving out some of the great prizes in each draw for nine years, without going any further, it has dispensed the Gordo up to three times, although in loose tenths. Few are those who doubt that she will do it again for the tenth consecutive year.
It is not surprising, some point out, as it is the receiver -not to be confused with administration- that sells the most in the Canary Islands and in Spain. “This year has been crazy, we are extremely happy,” says José Ángel González, manager of the Grupo González gas station chaired by his father José Miguel, while his brothers, Aarón and Miriam, manage the Repsol gas stations in El Volcán in Arafo and El Porís de Abona, which also have lottery receivers, although they do not reach the level of sales of the Granada station, where today there are endless queues to obtain at least a tenth, for what “lest it fall there again and I don’t have any”, one of the most repeated phrases when it comes to the Christmas Draw.
the most persecuted
Those queues continue despite the fact that there are barely “ugly tenths, with very repeated or very low numbers”, comments José Ángel, to immediately recall that “from zero to 99,999, all numbers enter the hype”. For weeks it has been impossible to achieve the endings 13,15,17, 19, 22 and 69, in addition to not being able to get “5”, recalls the manager of La Chasnera, the most awarded ending in the history of the draw.
“Sales are being the same or better than last year and these days it has been crazy, with people calling them from the Peninsula and the islands, I don’t tell you anymore,” says José Ángel González.
His sister Miriam, administrator of the González Group, tells us that apart from those who go to La Chasnera or its station in El Porís daily, “there are many who call to buy online or to make reservations, many who call us from the asylums , even a lady who asked us for several tenths because she wants to get out of the asylum, or many people who aspire to the Gordo because they want treatment for a sick family member. There are many who tell you about their plans if they win a tenth prize ”, she tells us.

60 euros in Tenerife
Each canary will spend an average of 48.18 euros in the lottery for this year’s Christmas Draw -37.29 in the province of Las Palmas and 59.96 euros in Santa Cruz de Tenerife- 6.73 euros more than last year past when the average investment was 41.45 euros. Even so, the islands continue well below the national average that amounts to 69.36 euros for each Spaniard, according to data from the State Lottery and State Betting Society (Selae).
This amount is an estimate since the data will be definitive when the returns of tickets not sold during the campaign of this extraordinary raffle are received.
It all started in 2013 with the number 79712 brought from Murcia
All the series of the number 79712, imported from Murcia by José Miguel González to distribute in his seven gas stations, brought in 2013 no less than the second prize (200 million euros). Since then, already with tenths extracted from the receiver of La Chasnera, this has never missed the appointment with the awards.
