The City Council of La Laguna begins this Monday the adaptation and improvement works of Padre Manjón street, in Taco, with a budget of 155,986 euros and an execution period of three months. This is an intervention by the Department of Works and Infrastructures included in the Reform, Expansion and Improvement (RAM) program on roads and public spaces.
The mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, recalled that this work is carried out to remedy the road safety problems that currently occur on the street, due to the poor conditions of the sidewalk, which are added to the speed that vehicles reach. as it is a straight road.
“We have a commitment to road safety in the municipality, and our efforts in terms of roads are aimed at eliminating the most problematic points of our road network, attending to neighborhood demands and prioritizing actions that require a more urgent intervention”, stressed.
In this sense, the councilor held a meeting with the president of the San Luis Gonzaga Neighborhood Association, Begoña Arocha, and several residents of the area to discuss the improvements that will now be carried out on the dates prior to the tender for the project. carried out, since this intervention in Padre Manjón responds to a long-sought neighborhood request.
The main problem of the road is due to the lack of accessibility and the little space available for pedestrians, due to the presence of palm trees that occupy practically the width of the sidewalk. In addition, the sidewalk registers a narrowing in various sections of the road, especially in the area closest to the educational centers in the area. The work covers a sidewalk paving surface of 3,225 meters.
A first action by the Citizen Security area consisted of leaving the street one-way and providing it with a parking area next to the school and the Institute of Secondary Education. The works that begin this Monday aim to regulate the situation of this road, with the expansion of the sidewalk bordering the educational areas and the improvement of access to pedestrian crossings, adapting them to accessibility regulations and expanding the crossings to provide them of more visibility with respect to the vehicles.
