Yesterday, Candelaria held an extraordinary plenary session to approve the Agreement between the Canary Islands Social and Social Care Institute of the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Candelaria City Council to finance the construction of the Barranco Hondo Social and Health Care Center, located on Agustín Ramos Ramos street. The action is part of the Plan for Social and Health Infrastructures of Tenerife.
Thus, the proposal had the support of all political forces, being approved unanimously. In this way, a multi-year spending commitment was approved, in order to authorize and provide in favor of the Candelaria City Council the amount of 4,767,100.81 euros in 2022 by contract for Works of the Phase I Execution Project and 208,175, 98 euros in 2023, for the contract for the Equipment of the Execution Project of Phase I.
Mari Brito, mayoress of Candelaria, explained with great emotion that, after seven years of hard work by the two public entities, “the signing of this inter-administrative cooperation agreement aims to carry out the execution of the Barranco Hondo Social and Health Center, a essential infrastructure for the configuration of a solid network in Tenerife for dependent elderly people. This project is divided into two phases. The first will have an execution period of 30 months. We will work to progress in the tender and in the construction of the center”.
The Councilor for Social Services, Olivia Pérez, highlighted the function of the center as essential to improve the ratios of residential places and day centers, since it will improve the coverage of social services in matters of dependency.
“We are very happy about this progress, it is excellent news for Candelaria and for the region,” stressed Pérez, who also joined the mayor’s thanks to the technical team for their professionalism and predisposition during the plenary session.
Local
The Barranco Hondo Social and Health Center will have a regional character, since it will not only serve the elderly in Candelaria, but will also extend to the municipalities of El Rosario, Arafo and Güímar, apart from the concerted places that the IASS may have, as is the case with other centers that have similar characteristics.
