An eco-area in El Médano, plans to improve the quality and accessibility of the dune and its beaches, an astrotourism viewpoint of Las Vegas, an El Médano-San Isidro pedestrian and cycling eco-path, the Del Mar a la Luna macro-route, a Magellan route, a tourism promotion body, pedestrian itineraries with intelligent signage or a gastronomic product club. These are the main actions that the Granadilla de Abona City Council will carry out thanks to the Granadilla de Abona Tourist Sustainability Plan for Destination Sustainability (PSTD), so much to enjoy.
The southern Consistory will be able to undertake these actions thanks to a grant of 5.7 million euros approved by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. The mayor, José Domingo Regalado, and the Councilor for Tourism, Eudita Mendoza, announced yesterday the details of this project that “It is intended to be a tool to reinvent the municipality’s tourism model and reconcile environmental needs and the economic development of the territory,” according to the mayor.
The municipality of Granada wants to update its tourism model through strategic projects like this one to regenerate and protect the marine and natural spaces of the coast, diversify and professionalize the offer and increase quality. Granadilla de Abona, tanto por disfrutar will work on the sustainable use of natural and marine resources, associated in turn with the preservation of biodiversity, the control of carrying capacity, the decongestion of the coast, mobility, the improvement of quality and the competitiveness of the destination, the enhancement of inland resources and digitization.
José Domingo Regalado pointed out that this is “very good news” since “we are one of the few municipalities in Spain that has achieved one hundred percent financing from European Next Generation funds.” He added that more than 12 million tourists a year enter through Granadilla de Abona through the airport Tenerife South. “Our municipality has the possibility of differentiating itself from other destinations through an ambitious and vital plan to move towards a more sustainable, accessible and future tourist municipality,” he remarked. Also, he said that the project intends to be “a tool to reinvent the tourism model of Granadilla.”
