SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Sí Podemos Canarias coalition in the Cabildo de Tenerife, made up of Podemos, Sí se puede and Verdes Equo, has shown this Thursday its rejection of the 2023 island budget since the PSOE “has shown its true face by agreeing with the right, which which ratifies and aggravates its commitment to continuity policies and predatory, unnecessary and outdated CC projects, such as the Motor Circuit or the promotion of the South and North trains”.
María José Belda, spokesperson and insular councilor for Sí Podemos Canarias, stressed that her group will defend a full amendment and 63 partial amendments for an amount of almost 40 million euros, for which it claimed as “the only political force that truly defends measures of social justice, distribution of wealth, commitment to energy and food sovereignty, territorial and environmental protection, defense of sustainable mobility, animal welfare or promotion of culture, among other proposals”.
Belda highlighted that Sí Podemos Canarias “has been left alone as the only political option for progress that guarantees a truly sustainable island model, which is committed to the economic and labor diversification of the island, the defense of the well-being of citizens, territorial protection against predatory developmentalism, and that proposes measures to transform the current mass and all-inclusive tourism model, for a quality tourism that is respectful of and in accordance with the population load limitations”.
In this sense, he affirmed that “the PSOE has had the opportunity to have the support to have changed during this mandate the policies that have been made for 32 years, but they have shown that the only vision of the future they have for Tenerife is to continue working at the mercy of the wishes of the business community and the bosses, in order to continue burying the island under cement and concrete”.
David Carballo, insular councilor of Sí Podemos Canarias, has defended that his group “has been the only one that has truly complied with what was defended in the electoral program in 2019”, remaining “faithful” to the intention of “changing the insular policy that had Tenerife suffered at the hands of CC”.
For this reason, he criticized that “the PSOE has decided to turn its back on the true needs of the citizens of Tenerife, promoting CC projects together with its government partner Cs and the PP, thus demonstrating its false promises of change in the presidency of the island corporation, to now carry out projects for electoral purposes”.
THE CHANGE OF POSITION WITH THE TRAINS IS “INADMISSIBLE”
Regarding the trains from the South and the North, now supported by the PSOE after agreeing with the PP, Carballo defends that thanks to Sí Podemos Canarias and the agreement they had with the PSOE, it was possible to stop the possibility of “these predatory projects” going ahead. and that they will mean a millionaire waste of public money and Pedro Martín is in evidence when agreeing with the PP that these projects be financed, when it has been the president himself who has also rejected the trains throughout the term, so this change of opinion is inadmissible.”
Along these lines, he denounced that “PSOE and Cs have progressively allowed the public bus service provided by Titsa to die to argue that it is insufficient and that Tenerife needs the trains, when the real bet must be to reinforce and strengthen Titsa so that it counts with an efficient, fast and punctual service, at the same time as creating bus-HOV lanes at once to improve fluidity in its operation”.
Sonia Beltrán, representing Sí se puede and a member of the Canary Islands Coordinator, defended that the coalition has always worked to promote public policies that respond to the interests of the citizens of Tenerife, “seeking to favor the well-being of citizens and leaving a aside the continuism of the policies that have weighed down Tenerife”.
Thus, he criticized that “the insular government has decided not to enter into any negotiation” and went “directly to the right to guarantee that these projects that threaten the territory go ahead.”
“Sí Podemos Canarias has been the only political force that has served as a containment dam for certain policies and projects of the island government team, but the PSOE now decides to allocate public funds to investments that we are totally against, since our group bet because these amounts should go to cover historical needs of the island,” he said.
