SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife has delivered 19 Pick Up 4×4 intervention vehicles to the local Civil Protection groups on the island this Wednesday morning, in an act in which more than 70 members of the volunteer corps, municipal representatives participated , the insular president, Pedro Martín, the Minister of Natural Environment Management and Security, Isabel García, and the insular Director of Security, Rubén Fernández.
The president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, pointed out in handing over the keys to the vehicles that since the start of this mandate “it has been to promote security on the island by providing this area with more resources, and collaborating with the municipalities with the Municipal Plans of Security, the PEMU”.
He added that today, somehow, what was intended was not only to deliver some vehicles, but to consider recognizing the volunteers who are part of these groups and recognizing their work in complicated situations.
It was also intended to make a delivery of vehicles that “should not be translated simply as the provision of a new resource, but interpreted as the beginning of a new process of dialogue between the island institution, the town halls and the groups, so that this today we do not the extraordinary, but the usual”.
The president concluded by stating that when it comes to security “on the island we have to take advantage of all the good things we have and in this group is, without a doubt, the body of volunteers from Civil Protection.”
The Minister of Natural Environment and Security Management, Isabel García, pointed out that the work and dedication of volunteers in civil protection matters is essential in order to achieve a safer island”, adding that “on many occasions, their work goes unnoticed in the management of crises that affect society in general”.
For this reason, he recalled, “the Cabildo de Tenerife has wanted to pay these groups the attention that is due to them, and in the last four years the economic items destined to train and provide material to these much-needed teams have increased.”
“This is the first time that a block supply has been delivered, such as the one that the Cabildo is doing today. We are extremely happy to deliver these 19 vehicles that will complement the fleet of the Tenerife groups. These intervention vehicles are one more tool that will facilitate this solidarity work and, as I said before, so necessary, with all the security guarantees that they deserve”, concluded the counselor.
For his part, the insular director of Security, Rubén Fernández, highlighted that from the Cabildo de Tenerife “we decided to contribute to the development of an insular strategy through a training plan, with the work and development of procedures that integrate volunteers into the system Island Civil Protection and with the contribution of material resources, such as uniformity, radio equipment, the DESA that we will soon deliver and the largest investment that the Cabildo has ever made in Civil Protection volunteers, which are these vehicles”.
Each vehicle delivered, of the Mitsubishi L200 D/C 220 DI-D M-PRO model, has had an approximate cost of around 30,000 euros, and corresponds to the 19 municipalities in which there are Civil Protection groups, specifically Adeje, Arafo , Candelaria, El Rosario, El Sauzal, Garachico, Granadilla, Güímar, Icod, La Laguna, La Matanza, La Orotava, La Victoria, Puerto De La Cruz, San Miguel de Abona, Santa Cruz Tenerife, Santa Úrsula, Tacoronte, Tegueste.
