The pedestrianization project around the Our Lady of Africa Market, with which it will also be provided with a Wi-Fi network, the accessibility of the nearby shopping center will be improved and new signage will be placed, has been selected by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, through the Secretary of State for Commerce, to receive financing from the aid line to strengthen commercial activity in tourist areas and to support markets, urban commercial areas, non-sedentary commerce and short marketing channels. Thus, of the 2.1 million in which this intervention is valued, the Santa Cruz City Council will receive 1.7 million. This money comes entirely from European funds Next Generation.

Along with La Recova chicharrera, two other Canarian projects have also been selected, one in Gáldar and the other in Adeje. In total, the Canary Islands will receive about 4.32 million. Thus, the project Actions to promote competitiveness in the Nuestra Señora de África market and its surroundings will receive exactly 1,719,429.6 euros.

Specifically, according to the details of the actions that have obtained financing, and to which DIARIO DE AVISOS has had access, the pedestrianization of the street and rear access to the market is the one that obtains the most financing, with 812,130 euros. It is followed by works to improve and adapt the occupied area on Rambla Azul, with 374,500 euros.

The rest of the money is distributed between the improvement of low voltage electrical installations (162,640 euros); the reform of the facilities of the adjacent Shopping Center in terms of accessibility and equipment (187,250 euros), and the installation of intelligent delivery lockers (48,150 euros).

The implementation of a system to improve the relationship with the customer and their loyalty will also be addressed (32,100 euros); technological solutions at points of sale through digital channels (220,420 euros), and a campaign to promote digital billboards (14,980 euros).

The improvement of energy efficiency in public lighting, an awareness campaign for the reduction of waste and its correct separation, and an installation of photovoltaic panels will obtain 217,509 euros. The implementation of Wi-Fi in the market and adjacent areas, and renewing the signage, complete the project with another 79,308 euros.

project quality

The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, valued the quality of the project presented, which has been validated to be deserving of this type of financing, and valued “the work of the different municipal teams that have participated in its design and drafting”, which allow “to have a high degree of approval of the different projects presented”.

He described the news as “very positive, since it is a project that seeks a significant increase in the competitiveness of this facility, while adding to other transformation projects in the city; in this case, from the surroundings of the Recova”.

When we visited recently the cafe was very busy, there was no alternative cafe to get lunch. More catering would be very successful, and satisfy the visitors.
