The mayor of Tacoronte accuses the Cabildo de Tenerife of mistreating his municipality

The mayor of tacoronte, José Daniel Díaz Armas (New Canary Islands)showed this Tuesday, December 13, his “most resounding rejection” of the very low investment forecasts of the Cabildo de Tenerife for the new financial year in the northern town, since it considers that “our municipality and the tacoronteras are mistreated again, relegating us to the penultimate place of the local corporations of the island in the amount assigned to investments and in the proportional distribution Per inhabitant”. Barely 9.34 euros per neighbor compared to the 110 euros of the island average or the 1,912 euros they receive in Fasnia.

The president pointed out that the institution chaired by Pedro Martin (PSOE) «He has once again demonstrated his lack of sensitivity towards our municipality, making our situation even worse, since in 2022 he left us without a single euro in investment and now, in the new year, not only does he not correct it, but he relegates us back to the queuepunishing us and turning our backs on the investments that we have raised from the municipality ».

The reaction of the tacorontero president occurs after analyzing the budget of the Tenerife Council, a document that “reveals the imbalance in investment due to ideological differences in the presidency of local corporations.” Diaz stresses that in localities with nationalist mayors “the average per inhabitant is 38.4 euros, while in those governed by the PSOE, the party to which the island president belongs, it is 153.6 euros. A mismatch that CC has announced that it will try to correct with a total of 30 amendments for an amount of 120 million.

Jose Daniel Diaz He claims to feel “doubly wronged” because “the Cabildo has shown that it does not have a single idea or project for the 24,000 inhabitants of our municipality.” In his opinion, “every project that passes through our territory is ignored in the island accounts, as shown by the fact that last year they left us with zero investment for infrastructures and that this year the distribution per inhabitant is 9.34 euros, which makes us the second worst financed municipality on the island. And he adds that “it is curious that it only happens with localities that are not the political acronyms of the island leaders.”

The head of the Government of Tacoronto remarks that “the budget of the Cabildo, which has been drawn up by the PSOE and its government partners, only Arico presents a lower distribution per inhabitant. In data similar to tacoronte this Guimar, with 10.41 euros, a municipality now chaired by CC, like Granadilla, where the distribution is 17 euros. In other towns with more than 20,000 inhabitants and less than 30,000, this distribution also presents a mismatch, apparently depending on the political formation that presides over it. In the socialist strongholds of Candelaria they are 119.75 euros per inhabitant; in Puerto de la Cruz, 357 euros; in Guía de Isora, 200, and in Fasnia, 1,912 euros».

For Jose Daniel Diaz“it is clear that there are first and second class Tenerife residents in these budgets, according to the parties that have approved the accounts”, and reiterated that Peter Martin and his government team “do not have a single project or idea for Tacoronte, which does not exist in their head or in the policies that the socialists have for Tenerife, leaving not only the neighbors, but the municipality in the lurch.” Díaz also expressed his surprise that both the PP and C’s in the Island Corporation supported these budgets with their votes, “with which they are complicit in the mistreatment that this municipality is receiving.”

“With 9.34 euros of investment per neighbor, we are the second worst financed municipality on the island”

Diaz indicated that tacoronte The investments of the Cooperation Plan of the previous four-year period and of the current one are still pending execution, “which shows that the behavior is repeated after the zero investment last year and the null or little contribution of the new year.” In his opinion, “it is the Government of the Canary Islands who invests in our municipality, in the Farmer’s Market or in the roofs of educational centers, money that comes from the regional accounts, while in those of the Cabildo, Tacoronte does not exist ».

“Has been Tacoronte City Hall the administration that has unblocked actions such as the project for the sewage system and the coastal promenade between Table of the Sea and El Pris, when we could have advanced much more if there had been more effort to get this investment, since the Cabildo has not gone beyond the newsroom, “he criticizes. The mayor considers that “a Cabildo has to act with all the municipalities with the same care and affection, in the same way that a mayor must do it with all his neighborhoods, even if his neighbors are not knocking on his door every day. What I see is a lack of an insular project, because these are biased and politicized accounts.

Regarding the role of his covenant partners, belonging to the PSOEparty that leads at the insular level Peter Martin, the mayor recalled that when the total absence of investment occurred last year, “I was willing to participate in a press conference in which they were going to protest this distribution, the Socialists warning me that if I went, it would break the pact in our municipality. Now I am convinced that they are the ones who should take to the streets to demand what they tacoronte deserves.”

“My government partners are the ones who have the magnifying glass on themselves because the neighbors would like to know what the government thinks. PSOE of Tacoronte about his peers in the Council and on the projects that are not financed. The position that I maintain as mayor is very clear: I will be in defense of the residents of Tacoronte even against my party, because I owe it to them. Will my partners do the same? Between the PSOE and Tacoronte, what will they choose? Now they have to be the ones to express themselves. If you do not agree to be part of a government that claims what tacoronte deserves, is that they should not be, “sentence.
