The Cabildo de Tenerife allocates 1,054,804 euros to the maintenance service and improvement of reforestation work on the island until 2023, thus ensuring cultural care in different reforestation areas that improve survival and growth conditions and stability of the planted specimens.
“The maintenance and improvement of the repopulation work that we carry out in the forest masses of the island is a priority issue in the fight against forest fires and in the survival of our own species”, indicated the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, who added that “to these maintenance works we must add the incorporation of machinery, such as a shredder and a 4×4 truck, whose incorporation will facilitate the carrying out of these works.”
The Councilor for Management of the Natural Environment and Security of the Cabildo, Isabel García, also indicates that “the repopulation of areas of forest mass on the island entails a task of care and control, due to the fact that in many areas spontaneous vegetation can drown the species repopulated”.
Along these lines, he added that in recent months the Island Government Council has approved “packages of measures that will contribute to the island’s forest management, with the aim of offering a more sustainable state of forests.”
In these works, the selective clearing of the vegetation that is in clear competition with the repopulated plants and cuts with chainsaws in the cases in the development of the vegetation that has invaded the repopulations is contemplated, collects a note from the Cabildo.
