The square of La Concepción de La Laguna hosts, yesterday and today, the IV edition of the local Adoption Fair, two days in which associations, animal protectors from all over the Island, volunteers and veterinary and legal professionals are exposing their work to the public and to launch a joint message to defend animal rights, put an end to abandonment, encourage adoptions and promote responsible ownership.
The initiative, promoted by the Department of Animal Welfare of the La Laguna City Council, includes information and solidarity stands of protectors of the Island, family workshops, a campaign to collect food and donations, different thematic talks and the traditional parade of adoption, with some of the animals rescued by the twenty associations participating in this edition and who are waiting for a family.
The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and the Councilor for the Environment, Animal Welfare and the Fight against Climate Change, José Luis Hernández, inaugurated this edition yesterday, with which the municipality commemorates the International Day for Animal Rights , and they did so with a tour of the exhibition area to find out about the demands and proposals of the organizations, the different initiatives that they are developing and promote new projects together.
The Fair can still be visited today, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the Plaza de La Concepción, where a solidarity space has been set up to encourage collaboration and food donations to the protectors, also on these Christmas dates, an action to that numerous companies and specialized stores have already joined and that it is open to all people who want to contribute. At the end of the Fair, all donations will be distributed equally among the 20 protectors that have joined this year and have their own stands.
Likewise, the initiative includes an extensive program of conferences and workshops, with proposals as interesting as a legal analysis of the repercussions of the new Law on Animal Welfare, the experience of living with a guide dog or how to act in the face of the death of animals in company. In this tent, in addition, images of animals currently up for adoption will be broadcast.
conferences today
Specifically, today the conferences will take place between 12:00 and 1:30 p.m., with What is my pet for me?, by Daniel Araiz, from the Veterinary Hospital + Vet (formerly HospiverSur); Pets? No, family animals, by Francisca Gutiérrez, from the Canarian Network of Lawyers for Animal Welfare and its Environment; La Despedida, by Alberto Roque, from Cremacan, and Prevention of Feline Overpopulation, by María Morales, from Defensa Animal Tenerife.
And, as usual, this Fair has a space for children’s workshops so that families who visit it can take home a souvenir made with their own hands, and which tries to raise awareness about caring for pets and the environment.
