The residents and companies of El Tablado and El Escobonal, in Güímar, are suffering to be able to access and leave their destinations as the works have been ongoing for two months on the bridge that joins them on the TF-1.
“Without going into technical elements, we ask the Cabildo for priority to finish this work and, above all, more communication with the City Council and the residents of the area. We ask for speed in the work to avoid further inconveniences”, says the mayor, Gustavo Pérez.
“We want to convey our indignation and the lack of respect that the Highway area is having with us. For approximately two months we have been having occasional cuts that we understood were necessary for the work, but since November 28 they cut the bridge permanently and we understood that it would be for three or five days at the most to remove and put the new asphalt. But that has not happened. To this day, only the asphalt layer has been removed and that’s it, keeping it closed and unused since then. On Monday they answered us first that they no longer had pending work. And now they give us the excuse of the rain and that it will take one more week, that is, the whole week that comes, from Monday the 12th to Friday the 16th to pave. Something that seems like a joke to us ”, indicate the neighbors.
“Apart from what has already been commented by the Neighborhood Association, I have been directly affected financially by the loss of customers, since, as it is a place of passage and the bridge is closed, the entrance to the town has been diminished and, as consequently, my collection”, says the businesswoman Isora Acerina Hernández.
The Cabildo began the works on the El Tablado bridge, on the TF-1, on November 25, given the signs of deterioration, with the placement of three towers, one in the center of the pier that supports the deck of the bridge and the others on the sides of the same, with the aim of releasing the weight and being able to guarantee safety during the repair. The deteriorated concrete was chipped and the bridge reinforcement was cleaned to remove all traces of rust. Then the cementitious membrane that will waterproof the structure to protect it from future oxidation was shaped. To this end, products that reduce the corrosion rate of the reinforcement without altering its properties were also applied.
For this, there were different access cuts to El Tablado, but, when the work was scheduled to finish with the asphalting, it is still waiting and the bridge remains closed, due to the complaints of the residents of almost the entire coastline of Agache and El Escobonal, which have that access from the TF-1. Neighbors regret the lack of information from the Cabildo.
