SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife, through Turismo de Tenerife, has launched a series of guided tours around the Island intended solely for the elderly, with which it is intended that they can rediscover the island territory for free.

This initiative, in which 60 people have participated, is part of the Tenerife is yours tourism programme. It forms part of the transversal actions that, under the umbrella of Conecta Mayores, the Island Corporation is promoting from all areas to improve the quality of life of the elderly and promote their autonomy.

The third vice-president and councilor for Social Action of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Marián Franquet, affirmed that they advocate continuing the leisure offer launched by the Corporation for the elderly, also favoring the acquisition of new knowledge. “It is a program in which wisdom and experience are combined with learning about our Island,” she added.

The insular director of Tourism of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Laura Castro, explained that this action is intended for the resident population, and specifically the elderly group, to get to know different corners of the Island. “On this occasion, transversally with the area of Acción Social, we want older people to be able to share a day of leisure for free, getting to know the island on different thematic routes led by professional guides through the Tenerife is Yours program,” he added.

This experience has served as a pilot for the possibility of expanding these visits in the future. Specifically, the different groups from the south, the north and the metropolitan area of the island were able to learn in depth about the Anaga and Taganana Rural Park, the towns in the Acentejo area, and the Teno Rural Park, as well as the hamlet of Masca.

In addition to the social objectives, the project values the work of professionals belonging to the Association of Tourist Guides in Tenerife (APIT), as well as those who are part of the active tourism companies integrated into the Charter for Sustainability of Activities in Nature.
