La Orotava gives way to the traditional contests for stories, nativity scenes and Christmas cards, which are in their 22nd edition. In addition, the historical research school contest, which is celebrating its XV edition, is also convened on this date. As in each call it is expected to have a high participation, emphasizes the mayor, Francisco Linares. “The local institution appreciates the commitment of each and every one of the participants, as well as encourages all citizens to continue being part of these contests, since they are the true protagonists and the ones who make it possible, “says the La Orotava City Council in a press release.
The theme of inspiration for the contests is Christmas in any of its aspects, while in this edition’s research contest it is Toponyms of places in La Orotava. For its part, the Christmas card contest is aimed at children in the municipality between the ages of 5 and 14, with three categories according to age ranges (5 to 7 years, 8 to 10 and 11 to 14).
The objective is reward the creativity of the participants in a card design whose format will be 13 by 16 centimeters. The works may be submitted until December 22 through the General Registry of the City Council during office hours, and must be delivered in a sealed envelope, indicating on the outside the category of the prize in which the participant is participating. The author’s name, age, address, telephone number, course and educational center to which he belongs must also be added on the back of the card. The winners of the contest will receive a plaque and a gift.
As for the story contest, there are two categories: the first, for schoolchildren up to 14 years old, and the second, for young people and adults. A first and second prize will be awarded in both categories, with delivery of a plaque and a collection of books for each of the winners. The works, which can be presented until December 22 in the General Registry, must be in a sealed envelope indicating the title and pseudonym of the author, as well as the category to which they opt. Inside said envelope, another sealed envelope must be included with the author’s name, address and telephone number. Those who participate in the school category must indicate the school year and the center in which they are enrolled. The works will not exceed ten pages, on one side only and creativity and literary expression will be valued, indicates the City Council in the press release.
The nativity scenes contest is divided into four modalities: group A for those installed in public places, such as parishes, banks, companies, neighborhood associations… Group B includes those found in private homes built by people over 14 years of age, while group C will be those made by children under 14 years of age. And in group D are the nativity scenes made in schools. All must be exposed to the public between December 20 and January 7. Registration to participate must be made in Education and Culture of the City Council until December 17.
