The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, presented a motion yesterday that will be taken to tomorrow’s plenary to reinforce the sense of identity and belonging of the towns and neighborhoods of the municipality, through the execution of a project with a series of actions to his momentum. “I have always defined this municipality as a town of towns. And the administrations must contribute to strengthening the sense of identity and belonging, as an element of social cohesion and integration of its inhabitants”, stated the mayor, who stressed that “it is a project that aims to reinforce our pride in belonging to our town, to our neighbourhood”.
Specifically, the measures included in the motion propose, for example, “to appropriately identify each of the towns, neighborhoods and inhabited nuclei with their own entity of the municipality, by means of signaling their main access road,” he explained. This identification will be done through the installation of large-format letters with the name of each place, located in an environment that favors its vision and adequately enabled to give it the necessary enhancement.
The incorporation of other population centers with their own identity to those already mentioned in the list of the six districts of La Laguna will also be studied.
Likewise, “the correct identification of the towns and neighborhoods of the municipality will be promoted in official documents, communications, festive programs, tourist guides and publications of an informative nature”, in addition to “favoring the dissemination of this denomination in the educational centers of the municipality”, as well as “support the development of studies that contribute to strengthening the population’s sense of identity and belonging to the place they inhabit.”
“I hope that the motion has the support of all political forces in plenary.” the mayor emphasized.
Cultural space
On the other hand, the councilor also announced that he will present a second motion for the City Council to initiate the administrative procedures for the purchase of the property of the former Sociedad Unión de Geneto and promote its recovery as a cultural space that helps to revitalize the neighborhood.
Likewise, he recalled that the neighbors themselves, as well as the heirs of the property, have been in favor of the property becoming municipal ownership and promoting the creation of a cultural space.
