The surroundings of the Tegueste institute have an unusual informative sign: besa+baja. As explained by the City Council, it was an initiative of the Department of Works and “It is a term that responds to the reserved and temporary parking for cars in school zones that facilitate the access of the students without the stop of the cars harming the rest of the traffic”.
This appeal, reported yesterday by Radio Club Tenerife, allows the driver to stop his vehicle at a halt and leave his child near the educational center. Therefore, as much as possible, traffic jams are avoided. Although it is not common on the island, there are others, at least in the province of Las Palmas, in other parts of Spain and in Europe. It should be noted that it is not part of the official signals.
Judging by the publication in which the Tegueta City Council announced the installation of this new element on its Facebook page last November, the initiative has been received with more discomfort and jokes than as an action of interest. The practical majority of the 28 comments that the message has are in that area. Some examples: “Then they stop traffic to cross. And we continue in the same… Wasn’t there a project for a catwalk or something like that?», «Mother of beautiful love!!!!», «Oh, sir! It’s still a danger. how did they not think of a pedestrian bridge? (…)», «Hahahahaha, let them kiss before leaving the house», «In my time I didn’t even kiss; to run before the chola fell on top!!”, “What nonsense!”, “For me it is the dumbest work of the century” or “Mamarrachada”.
