The Arona City Council will have state resources in the coming weeks, worth two million euros, from the 2022 General State Budget, whose objective is to take an important step in the regeneration and rehabilitation of Los Tarajales beach , one of the areas with the greatest value and potential in Los Cristianos, which has suffered significant environmental degradation in recent decades.

The mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, signed last Friday the agreement for the transfer of these funds, which are nominative, with the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge.

In this way, the process that began in October 2022 culminates, with the unanimous approval of all the municipal political groups, to promote the regeneration of Los Cristianos Bay with the recovery of Los Tarajales beach.

The signed agreement contemplates that the Arona City Council be the entity that prepares the works project and the one that makes the bidding and execution of the works possible. The deadline for this will be December 31, 2026, although it may be extended for two more years.

The municipality, for its part, will be able to complete the resources that are necessary in the event that the work involves a greater expense, both with its own funds and from other public institutions.

In any case, a process will be carried out in which the people of Los Cristianos will have an active role in the final project, with the participation of ecological and environmental groups, so that the regeneration process is sustainable and capable of withstanding the effects of climate change. and the rise of the tides.

The Los Tarajales beach regeneration project was promoted in 2008, but it could not be developed due to the economic crisis that began then and the Environmental Impact Declaration expired, until, throughout this term, the local government and all the plenary have managed to promote it again, obtaining the commitment of the Minister of Tourism, Reyes Maroto, on a visit to the area three years ago, just after the reform of the promenade and the recovery of public space by Costas for the whole of the neighbors with the demolition of a dozen buildings in a dilapidated state.

Performances and works

This agreement is parallel to the bidding process and the execution of the repair works that will be carried out on Paseo de Los Tarajales, which has been affected by the tides for more than two years and which can be repaired after all the political parties that make up the municipal corporation will support the provision of resources for the cost of the arrangements.

The works of the first phase of this road ended in 2020 with an investment of 2.5 million euros from the Arona City Council itself and the Cabildo de Tenerife.

Arona Grand Hotel

The information on the upcoming drafting and execution of the Los Tarajales beach project has been very well received by the Los Cristianos tourism sector. Miguel Villarroya, general director of Spring Hotels, pointed out yesterday that “this news is a breath of fresh air for the municipality and the entire south of Tenerife, but in concrete terms, it is also very positive for the Arona Gran Hotel, which is located right in front of Los Tarajales beach. In addition, “our hope is to be able to build a friendly bathing area that has the least impact on the coastline and represents another attribute for the area, the local public and tourists, offering a new comfortable access that protects the environment and beautifies the coast, aligned with the natural coast of Tenerife”, indicated Villarroya.
