SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Borja Perdomo, after presenting the guarantees for the primary process, has been proclaimed candidate of the Socialist Party for the Cabildo de La Palma for the next island elections, which will be held in May 2023; a candidacy that he has presented today Monday at the PSOE’s island headquarters in La Palma, supported by the general secretary, Anselmo Pestana, and a representation of the militancy and public officials.

His first words were to thank the militancy of the fourteen local PSOE groups on the island that have supported his candidacy, as well as to the general secretary of the La Palma socialists and the island leadership as a whole, who have trusted his appointment for this “great responsibility” that he assumes “with humility but also with all the determination and commitment that the Island requires in this complex context.”

Perdomo pointed out that La Palma “needs solutions, trust and empathy to face the reconstruction process” that the Island Council is leading, “with the close and forceful cooperation of the governments headed by Pedro Sánchez and Ángel Víctor Torres”.

“The next mandate will be crucial because we have the duty to conclude the reconstruction process and, at the same time, promote the takeoff of the insular economy, through the promotion of certain actions that contribute to moving towards a more social and sustainable island; with a a more diversified economy, which allows the generation of stable and quality employment, with a quality tourism sector, the promotion of the knowledge economy and a more sustainable agriculture; and with a clear commitment to promoting the talent of our young people and entrepreneurs” , stressed the socialist candidate.

Borja Perdomo acknowledged that La Palma faces challenges like never before in its recent history, but assured that they are “loaded not only with hope, courage and ideas, but also with experience and knowledge in managing the most difficult times that we can remember, where we have had to face a pandemic and the biggest natural catastrophe in the recent history of Europe”, he added. For this, he was convinced that they will present a team of women and men “that will be up to these challenges.”

Likewise, he guaranteed that his candidacy will be one of unity, dialogue and consensus in favor of La Palma: “In this context of serious difficulties it is irresponsible to carry out bad politics for electoral interests. They have not found us there, nor will they find. I have defended throughout these years that La Palma needs unity more than ever and it is in this spirit of consensus that we will continue working”.

Borja Perdomo stressed that his way of understanding politics is also based on continuous dialogue with citizens. “Listening to society in order to act has been vital in this mandate and, especially, in managing the reconstruction, where we have activated the largest citizen participation process that has been carried out in Europe”, he stated.

“Governing alongside the people, looking face to face at reality to transform it, has been, is and will continue to be the roadmap that will guide my commitment to the palmera society. Taking charge of reality to act effectively and efficiently, at a time that demands solutions, it will be the seal that will print my candidacy for the Island Council,” added the socialist candidate.

“GREAT WORK CAPACITY”.

Anselmo Pestana, for his part, has valued the figure of Borja Perdomo as a candidate to preside over the Cabildo Insular de La Palma, “an institution in which he has revealed, in the different responsibilities he has assumed throughout his term, a great capacity for work, efficiency in management, honesty and ability to engage in a constant and permanent dialogue with the palmera society”.

“The PSOE bets on Borja Perdomo as a candidate for the Cabildo in one of the most committed moments in the recent history of La Palma, with the conviction that he will continue to be the engine to advance in the recovery process of the Island, as it has manifested in their responsibilities in the Island Corporation, and promote the progress and socioeconomic development to which the palm trees and the palm trees aspire”, he added.

Pestana stressed that the PSOE governments have been key in this legislature in facing the enormous difficulties that society has had to face, first with the pandemic and then, on La Palma, with the volcanic eruption. “Never has action been taken with greater forcefulness, efficiency and sensitivity in the face of an emergency as in the case of La Palma, where no resources have been spared and the necessary mechanisms have been articulated for the recovery of the Island as quickly as possible”, he pointed out. the.

“Borja Perdomo has been at the center of the reconstruction of the Aridane Valley, leading a process of recovery of aspects as decisive as communications, which have the La Laguna-Las Norias highway as one of the main milestones and a clear reason for the hope,” he concluded.
