The mayor of garachico, Jose Heriberto Gonzalez (CC)celebrates the recent opening and start-up of the two major outpatient surgery operating rooms in the call North Hospitalin Icod of the Wines, but remember that there is still a lot to be done to make this facility a true hospital. Among the pending demands, “at least since 2015,” González cites the improvement of the resources of diagnostic imagingspace for chemotherapy treatments for cancer patients and for those affected by hematological problems, pediatric emergencies, improvement in human and material resources of the emergency servicesand the study of the possible implantation of delivery rooms.

“We celebrate and appreciate the announcement by the regional Ministry of Health of the commissioning, finally, of the operating rooms of Ambulatory major surgery (CMA) in the North Hospital, although it arrives several years late. There are two operating rooms that began to be enabled five years ago and that will be used to perform operations that do not require hospitalization. I hope they work every day at a sufficient time to accommodate the largest number of patients possible ”, emphasizes the Garachiquense president.

Consider it Good news, but he does not stop insisting that “for this center to function as a true useful hospital and offer the services that all the citizens of the region expect, its portfolio of services must be completed as soon as possible. as we have come claiming since 2015regardless of who has held the ownership of the Ministry of Health and the Government of the Canary Islands”.

Regarding diagnostic imaging, González understands that the region needs to have “high-resolution contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, more modern ultrasound machines and specialized technical personnel,” which would avoid numerous transfers to the metropolitan area of patients from the Northwest.

He sees it as essential that the Hospital del Norte have “an area for chemotherapy treatments for cancer patients and for patients with hematological problems, with a hospital pharmacy that prepares the appropriate serums to avoid the suffering of that weekly trip to the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) of patients suffering from these diseases.

The nationalist president insists on the need to have pediatricians in emergency hours “to guarantee adequate care for the emergencies of the children of this part of the island.” In addition, it stresses that the current emergency service must have “the adequate human and technical resources to carry out its function in an absolutely effective manner. Something very important due to the distance of this area from the reference hospitalwhich is the HUC”.

The mayor of garachico nor does it renounce the possibility that the Hospital del Norte may have delivery rooms in the future to care for women from municipalities such as Buenavista, Los Silos, El Tanque, Garachico, Icod de los Vinos or La Guancha, which would prevent them from sometimes having to travel more than 65 kilometers away. A journey that usually lasts an hour, but that at peak times may require two or three hours on the road.
