The Arona City Council has once again put out to public tender the installation of twenty video surveillance cameras in the Las Verónicas shopping center area, in Playa de Las Américas, after the first tender was abandoned.
From the Consistory it is recalled that the placement of cameras in this area, where a large part of the nightlife offer is concentrated, is a “historical claim” of neighbors, the accommodation sector, shops and restaurants.
Although in principle it was expected that the tender for the cameras would be resolved last summer, once the financing was closed, the Arona City Council has been forced to postpone the process due to the lack of offers. Now, several companies have already been interested and have submitted their proposals, as this newspaper has learned. The procedures began in 2018, from a meeting of the Local Security Board chaired by the mayor, José Julián Mena, and the then Government delegate Elena Máñez. A year later, another meeting was held with the current sub-delegate, Javier Plata.
After the work carried out by a commission for several months, the Government Delegation last May authorized the placement of these security devices.
The cameras will be installed in the Las Verónicas shopping center area, specifically between Rafael Puig Lluvina avenue and Francisco Andrade Fumero street in Playa de Las Américas.
