The University of La Lagunathrough its Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit, Cienci@ULL, and the Arona City Council open the registration period to participate in the second edition of the Arona Junior Scientists Scientific Projects Contest, iInviting the 19 primary and secondary schools in the municipality.
The contest’s main purpose is “to promote scientific and technological vocations among Arona school students through the design and development of scientific projects linked to the main activities of the municipality.” It is aimed at students in the 5th and 6th grade of primary school and 1st and 2nd year of ESO in schools in Arona.
The projects will be advised by doctoral students from the University of La Laguna. Also, they must be supported by the teacher and tutor of each class. The minimum number of students per project is five students, and a maximum of three projects per class will be available.
The themes will deal with the activity of the municipality: tourism, transport, environment and biodiversity, renewable energy, small businesses, education and culture, fishing and agriculture. The realization of each project will go through each of the phases of the scientific method, from when the problem to be solved is posed until the most appropriate solution is obtained and disseminated. They will be carried out from January to May 2023.
