SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Governing Council of the University of La Laguna held an extraordinary session today, Monday, in which it approved the proposal for the implementation of three official titles, of which two are doctoral programs and an interuniversity master’s degree.
The vice-rector for Teaching Innovation and Quality, Néstor Torres, indicated that the first of them is Economy and Society, designed in response to the need to train researchers in the area of economics and social behavior. It has two lines of research, with a clear applied vocation and has 31 professors who have accumulated more than 60 six-year research periods.
The second doctoral program is that of Agro-environmental Engineering, Rural Development and Natural Resources, oriented towards the transfer of knowledge to the economic fabric of the Canary Islands, in such a way that doctors from different master’s degrees can be trained. The title is closely linked to the Canarian Institute of Agrarian Research, at the regional level, and the Institute of Natural Products, of the CSIC.
The third proposal is the Interuniversity Master’s Degree in Bioethics and Biolaw, which has its origin in a similar degree of a blended nature. In the new version, the degree becomes completely online, and the universities of the Basque Country and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria as co-organizers. It is open to all degrees in Health Sciences, but also to Law or Philosophy students.
For her part, the Vice Chancellor for Teaching and Research Staff, Rocío Peña, presented to the Governing Council various points related to the promotion of university teaching staff. Thus, he explained that, in November 2021, the Governing Council approved the 2021 Public Employment Offer for Teaching and Research Staff, published in the BOC the following month, as a fundamental tool to face the planning of the teaching staff policy and, therefore, for the promotion of the PDI of the University of La Laguna, always subject to budget availability.
In September 2022, it was agreed to create 22 positions for PhD Assistant and PhD Contractor, one for Assistant and 10 for Associate Professors.
The call for all these positions requires again the modification of the staff structure without implying an added cost increase. The vice-rector pointed out that the offer of the aforementioned positions is made from the budget allocations for positions that have been becoming vacant for various reasons.
In addition, the approval was also given to the ratification of the agreement of the delegated commission for Teaching and Research Personnel on two selection commissions and their respective calls, related to two positions for the figure of Type 1 Doctor Contracted Professor, corresponding to the Offer of Public Employment of 2021.
The collegiate body also gave its approval to the proposal for a call for access to university teaching bodies of University Professor, linked to the Nephrology Service of Hospital Universitario de Canarias of the Public Employment Offer of the year 2020, and composition of the selection committee.
The proposal for the Public Employment Offer for Teaching and Research Staff of 2022 was also approved. There are a total of 69 positions in total, exceeding one hundred percent of the replacement rate, and which includes civil servant positions such as of labor. Specifically, there would be 11 positions for University Professor, 11 for University Holder, 6 for University Holder with I3 certification, that is, linked to the Ramón y Cajal program and similar programs, 37 for PhD Contracted and 4 for PhD Contracted with I3 certification.
This will comply with the commitment to promote all university teaching staff already accredited by ANECA, as well as the promotion to the figure of PhD Assistant of the contracted doctors who have completed the three-year contract and, finally, the promotion directly from two accredited PhD assistants to university holders without having to go through the figure immediately above.
In addition, the vice-chancellor added that the reservation of 5 Contracted Doctor places linked to the Canary Islands Health Service has been proposed, 4 of free assignment, that is, not subject to promotion by the university, and the offer of 10 places subject to the Figure I3.8 This proposal has been agreed upon both by the Teaching and Research Staff Board and the Works Council, whom he thanked for the good nature of the negotiation. Thus, the call number of 220 places is reached since 2019.
