Las Mercedes was reunited with their Fiesta de La Castaña after three years without being able to carry it out as a result of the pandemic. “The attendees were able to taste kneaded gofio, sardines in mojo, various dishes and, how could it be otherwise, some delicious roasted chestnuts,” they explained from the Valle de Las Mercedes Neighborhood Association about the initiative.
Among the performances, the Parranda de Las Mercedes, the Parranda El Serrucho and the singer Ani Cruz. Halfway through the celebration, an emotional moment took place with the tribute to the outgoing president of the Valle de Las Mercedes Neighborhood Association, Ángel Díaz Rodríguez. The protagonist immediately received a personalized painting in which his dedication and commendable work at the head of the Association for more than two decades was recognized. His colleagues also gave him “a commemorative tile as a token of gratitude.”
As detailed from the neighborhood entity, the origins of this event date back to 2001, “when a small group of partners decided to hold this party.” The objective of the new directive is that the project has continuity. “We will work so that it acquires a unique value not only in the Valley but also in the municipality,” said the president of the Association, Juan Pedro Amador.
