SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Board of the Parliament of the Canary Islands agreed this Thursday to shield the commemorative acts of the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’ with the aim of guaranteeing its continuity in the next legislatures.
In the meeting held this Thursday under the presidency of Gustavo Matos, this body has agreed to maintain the continuity of initiatives such as the reading of a manifesto condemning any expression of violence against women.
Matos underlines in a note the effort that society and institutions throughout the Canary Islands make daily in the fight against sexist violence and also highlights the many achievements and rights achieved in recent decades, “for which the visibility and awareness of this serious social problem must be guaranteed, regardless of the political forces represented in the autonomous Chamber”.
“As long as there is only one woman victim of violence, this Parliament must continue expressing its condemnation and guaranteeing its firm commitment, as an institution where all the citizens of the archipelago are represented, with real equality,” he affirms.
