SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife will take this Friday to plenary session the declaration of island interest of the management and urbanization plan of the plot in Granadilla necessary for the implementation of renewable energy facilities such as those for the production of green hydrogen on the island.
The insular president, Pedro Martín, explains that this step is essential to promote the progressive decarbonization of the island and recalls that “the previous opinion was approved by a majority in the Plenary Commission of the Presidency and Social Action”, for which he hopes that the Plenary endorse this same vote “and allow the impetus to this important project”.
He adds that this decision will allow the subsequent development of a green hydrogen production plant “and continue advancing, in this way, towards an island energy model with greater self-sufficiency capacity, also reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.”
The strategic nature of this planning, promoted by the Territorial Planning and Historical Heritage area, directed by Emilio Fariña, is justified because this plot of the Granadilla de Abona industrial estate is the only land in Tenerife reserved for the use of energy and industrial infrastructures linked to the storage, production and distribution of island energy.
The Granadilla industrial estate, recognized in the Tenerife Island Plan (PIOT), is intended to locate, among other uses, those related to the generation of electricity and the storage and treatment of fuels.
The plot, owned by DISA, has a rectangular area of 275,014 square meters.
