The Council of Tenerifethrough Turismo de Tenerife, celebrate the return of the Giro d’Italia Ride Like a Pro this weekendcycling tour that emulates the great Italian cycling tour Giro d’Italia. It will be the first time that a Spanish destination hosts the celebration of this sporting event, in which about 750 participate runnersof more than 20 nationalities.
The municipalities of Arona and Adeje will become the nerve center of this cycling march, which will allow its participants to visit the most emblematic places in the southern region of Tenerife.
For the insular director of Tourism, “the fact that Tenerife hosts this international event contributes to boosting the economy and positions the island as a destination capable of hosting major sporting events, it is also a boost for sport and for cycling lovers.” “Its celebration will allow them to enjoy two days in which the participants will be able to live the experience of the professionals who attend the Corsa Rosa every year,” highlighted the island manager.
Laura Castro will open the race tomorrow, Saturday, together with Franco Morelli, director of the Sports & Events Editorial Unit, organizer of the event. The ribbon cutting will take place at 7:50 a.m., in the Jardines del Duque parking area in Adeje.
This Saturday will be the hardest stage of the march. Starting and finishing in Adeje, it will have 110 kilometers and more than 3,000 meters of accumulated unevenness, including a timed section that coincides with the first 6 kilometers of ascent to the Teide by the slope of Chío. There, the runners will find ramps that will reach a 6% average slope and a maximum 8%.
The route set for Sunday will be somewhat lighter, starting on Sunday from Arona, at 9:00 a.m., from La Caleta street, taking the participants along 64 kilometers through a round trip circuit that will accumulate little more than 1,300 meters of positive unevenness. On this Sunday day there will also be a timed partial.
At 2:00 p.m., the award ceremony is scheduled to take place in the arrival area on Calle Portazgo, next to the Jesús Dominguez Grillo de Arona pavilion.
The call will allow bicycle lovers and fans to share with professionals such as Stefano Garzelli, Giro d’Italia 2000 champion or Raúl García Pierna, Spanish time trial champion, among other athletes.
