The president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, states regarding the implementation of free public transport on the Island that “we are going to have it difficult, but we do not stop working.” He adds that “this year we have hired about 90 more drivers, we have been commissioned to rent buses, about 20, because the new ones do not arrive, about 90, which take a while to be here.”
Martín explains that “it is a difficult process because we have to remove other vehicles not because they are old but because they are not the property of Titsa.”
The president affirms that “according to the contract signed by the previous government for the leasing system –financial lease– the buses must be returned”.
The path taken is more drivers and buying new buses, “which I hope will already be on the Island by the middle of next year,” he points out. He guarantees “the effort to cover the considerable increase that we expect in the demand for public transport in Tenerife for free.”
