SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Agents from the Caldera de Taburiente Nature Protection Detachment (Seprona) are investigating a person residing in the municipality of El Paso who is accused of starving several sheep inside a facility.
The investigation began as a result of a communication from a neighbor, who reported that in the vicinity of Camino Hermosilla (Tenisca ravine), in the town of Los Llanos de Aridane, there were specimens of sheep species without water and no food.
The Civil Guard agents went to the place and verified that a large amount of dirt was observed in the facilities and they found at least five live pelibuey or mixed breed sheep and a rotten sheep carcass that gave off a great stench.
The facilities were dirty and did not meet the minimum safety and hygiene requirements, not observing any traces of food, with containers with stagnant water, although the existence of bathtubs was seen, all of them empty, which in theory would serve as drinking troughs.
Seprona agents on the island of La Palma identified the author, a 66-year-old resident of El Paso. Proceedings have been initiated for a crime related to the Protection of Domestic Animals in its article 337.1 of the Criminal Code, which is punishable by a penalty of 6 to 18 months in prison and special disqualification for the possession and care of animals from 2 to 4 years.
The proceedings initiated have been made available to the Guard Court of Los Llanos de Aridane.
