The rights of boys and girls will be defended over the next few days in Puerto de la Cruz with an extensive program of activities organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Town Hall of the tourist city. Through the Childhood and Family Unit of the Institute of Social and Socio-Health Care of Tenerife and the Consistory, the Listen, Watch and Speak initiative has been launched, which began yesterday and will end on Friday, November 25.
The Councilor for Social Action of the Cabildo, Marián Franquet (PSOE), explains that with this initiative they want to take advantage of the commemoration of the International Day of the Rights of Children on November 20, “to give them visibility and promote the debate and commitment of society about their compliance, directly involving to families, the educational community and other agents linked to their care at the local level”.
The mayor of Porto, Marco González (PSOE), assures that «with this program we intend to sensitize society so that they contribute to the support and consolidation of actions and development of social policies aimed at promoting the well-being of our children and to the promotion of the rights of boys and girls». In addition, he thanked the Cabildo “for the opportunity to host this celebration, as part of its commitment to decentralization.”
Among the events scheduled, the II Insular Children’s Forum stands out, on the afternoon of Friday, November 18 at Lake Martiánez, with the participation of some 70 boys, girls and adolescents between the ages of 10 and 17 linked to programs, services and resources promoted from the Children’s Unit. This is an opportunity to collect the proposals, ideas and concerns of minors, who will be able to participate in the development of policies for children. That same day in the morning there will be conferences for professionals linked to the protection of minors.
The activities aimed at citizens started yesterday with the opening, in the Town Hall, of the photographic exhibition Children’s Rights. The Plaza de Europa hosts various activities and workshops on Saturday, including making a comic, crafts, an obstacle course and collective murals. There will also be activities for families, such as an online workshop on positive parenting, and another face-to-face, tomorrow afternoon, at the Casa de la Juventud, to promote educational practices with good treatment for children.
