The City Council of La Laguna continues with the renovation and improvement works of the municipal sanitation network. The most recent action is being carried out on Elías Mújica street, in La Cuesta, to solve a problem that has been occurring for years in the sewage system of this street, which was overflowed by rainwater every time rains occurred. The investment of the Department of Municipal Services is 38,466 euros.

The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, visited the beginning of the works in recent days and was able to explain the intervention to several residents affected by the situation of the sanitation network. They thanked the municipal response “to a historical demand, with a work that solves the situation of several houses affected by floods every time there is rain,” explained the mayor.

Luis Yeray Gutiérrez insisted on his commitment to “meet the neighborhood demands of our neighbors” and hopes that with this new channel, which separates rainwater from wastewater, “a solution will finally be found to a situation that involved a serious problem for the residents of this street”. The mayor announced that this intervention “will not be the last of its kind, as we will continue to carry out similar actions to improve the network in other areas of our city”.

The work on Elías Mújica Street will definitively separate rainwater from sewage water, so that the latter network will channel only wastewater and not rainwater, thus avoiding future collapses in the system. At the same time, the network is being given a greater slope to facilitate its circulation and diversion, thus reducing the risk of the collapse that has occurred to date.

To do this, two new pipes are being installed. The rainwater network will channel rainwater through a 400-millimeter-diameter PVC pipe that will connect to the system that passes through Avenida de Los Menceyes. Instead, the sewerage network will have a 300-millimeter pipe, a dimension more than sufficient to solve the problem that affected the houses located at the end of the street.

In the near future, works will be carried out with the same objective, to improve the sanitation system of the municipality, around the San Matías school.
