The carnival cruise ship arrived this Saturday at the Port of Santa Cruz, where it made a stopover for a few hours so that its passengers could get to know the city and the Island. However, tourists with reduced mobility, many of them in wheelchairs, could not enjoy the same way of the scale due to the lack of taxis adapted for their displacement.
As DIARIO DE AVISOS has been able to learn, almost a dozen of these passengers had to wait for the arrival of adapted taxis to move around the Island, vehicles that are scarce in the fleet of the capital, which has a figure that is below the minimum marked by law.
Precisely last month the call for grants from the City Hall of Santa Cruz to adapt the vehicles, to which, for the moment, only a taxi has been presented.
This helpline compensates for the expenses incurred during this year when adapting their cars. In addition, these taxis are not subject to service restrictions, so they can circulate every day, but even so, they are still very few.
