More than 160 affected by the La Palma volcano continue in hotels

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Councilor for Social Action of the Cabildo de La Palma, Nieves Hernández, reported at the weekly meeting of Peinpal that there are currently 162 people housed in three hotel facilities, whose accommodation and maintenance costs are paid by the island institution and amounting to a total of almost 5.5 million euros.

The minister highlighted that when in February the Cabildo de La Palma took over the management of displaced persons in hotels, a technical intervention team was set up with the collaboration of the affected town councils and the Government of the Canary Islands, for the people’s attention at that time was 494 people.

During that time, the technical intervention team has reduced to the figure of 162 people, configuring a total of 103 different family units. Of these, 67 correspond to single-person units, 23 have two members, five correspond to families of three people, six have four members and there are also two families with five people.

Currently, the municipality of Los Llanos de Aridane has the most residents staying in hotels, with 138 people, while 8 people are from Badajoz and 16 are registered in the Villa and Puerto de Tazacorte.

In addition, he explained that there are 99 people staying in hotels who have been evacuated from their homes in Puerto Naos and La Bombilla, due to the influence of gases that are harmful to health.

To which he added that the decrease in the number of people staying in hotels has to do with the opening of new areas for them to return to their homes, as well as the implementation of rental aid, making it possible to generate new beginnings for those affected. of the volcano.

In addition, he added that since last November the Palmera Institution has been taking charge of the psychological care of the victims who are staying in the hotels and that it continues to work on the search for housing solutions together with the rest of the administrations, which allows the neighbors who continue in the hotels to restart their life project.
