SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Government of the Canary Islands has granted this week, through an order approved by the Minister of Public Administrations, Justice and Security, Julio Pérez, the decorations of the Canary Security System, in its modality of Medal of Police Merit and Collective Badge of Merit police, corresponding to the years 2020, 2021 and 2022, thus resuming a practice suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Specifically, as stated in the aforementioned order, at the proposal of the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies, after considering the assessment and report of the Coordination Commission of Local Police of the Canary Islands, in its session held on October 21, the counselor Julio Pérez has decided to grant seven decorations in the form of Medal of Police Merit and another three in its form of Collective Plaque of Police Merit.
The seven medals, awarded for his outstanding professional activity, have been awarded to the Chief Commissioner of the Local Police Corps (CPL) of Santa Lucía, José Luis Herrera (corresponding to the year 2020); the deputy inspector of the CPL of Telde, José Luis Ramos (2020); the inspector of the CPL of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, César Lorenzo Robaina (2020); posthumously, to Santa Lucía CPL agent Pedro Bruno Henríquez (2020); the Telde CPL agents Faina Laura Cruz and Armando Jesús Martín (2021), and the Telde CPL officer José Juan Florido (2022).
The three collective plaques, awarded for their decisive contribution and meritorious collective work in favor of the dignity and public recognition of the local police, as well as their mission of defense, promotion and protection of public rights and freedoms, have been awarded to the Environmental Unit of the Telde CPL (2020); to the Reporting Unit of the CPL of San Cristóbal de La Laguna (2020); and to the Traffic Education Unit of the CPL of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (2020).
These decorations and distinctions of the Canary Islands Security System were created through Decree 55/2007, of March 13, “with the purpose of publicly recognizing and rewarding the actions of officials belonging to the different Canary Islands Local Police Forces in the exercise of their functions, as well as those persons whose conduct and actions for the sake of study, promotion, dignity or support of the police function have made them worthy of it”.
Article 1 of the aforementioned decree distinguishes various types of decorations and distinctions. Thus, in section a) it defines the Collective Badge for Police Merit as the award “aimed at distinguishing one or several Local Police Corps, their operating units or groups of officials who carry out differentiated and specific police action, due to their decisive contribution and meritorious collective work in order to dignify and publicly recognize the Local Police, as well as in their mission of defense, promotion and protection of public rights and freedoms”.
In section b) it defines the Police Merit Medal as the decoration “awarded individually and intended to distinguish those officials of the Local Police Corps of the Canary Islands who have stood out in a relevant way for their professional activity, for their humanitarian work or for his notorious dedication to service”.
These decorations will be delivered to those interested in a public act, as established in article 4 of Decree 55/2007, of March 13.
