The Environmental Protection Unit (UPMA) and the Department of Municipal Services of La Laguna collaborate in detecting and locating those responsible, as well as in eliminating the dumping of rubbish and household goods due to the increase detected in rural areas of the Northeast region. UPMA is also developing an information and awareness campaign among companies and entities in the area to promote citizen collaboration and curb uncivil attitudes that pollute and contribute to the appearance and proliferation of pests, with damage and risk to health.
Environment and Municipal Services try to stop a practice that poses significant environmental risks, due to the leaching of substances into the ground, due to the risk of fires and for attracting rats and insects. Only in the last few weeks, the UPMA located large spills in lots and roads in Tejina, Valle de Guerra and Jóver, a task in which there was collaboration from the public.
The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, assures that the City Council “will spare no effort to continue fighting against this type of vandalism that deteriorates and causes multiple damages to our environment.” He highlights “neighborhood involvement and the responsibility to report these behaviors.”

The Councilor for the Environment, Animal Welfare and the Fight against Climate Change, José Luis Hernández, explains that they have detected “offenders possibly from other municipalities.” He states that the evidence collected from the spills “points to multiple origins.” These “unseparated” remains are deposited on rustic floors and next to rubbish bins. He assures the mayor that there are cases in which there is a “non-compliance” of waste management companies or individuals hired to transport the waste to the authorized collection points.
The municipal government recalls that this infraction is sanctioned with fines of between 3,000 and more than 60,000 euros as it is a very serious offense in the Municipal Ordinance for Cleaning Public Spaces and Urban Solid Waste Management. In addition, in certain cases, this behavior could constitute a crime against the environment or public health.
José Luis Hernández asks for the neighborhood collaboration to locate the offenders, sending the location, images and all information that may be relevant to identify the alleged offenders to the email address [email protected]. In addition, he demands that the implementation of a Clean Point in the Northeast be speeded up, since La Laguna currently only has one, located in Taco. In addition, he recalls that the Consistory offers a free municipal service for the collection of belongings, which is available by calling 900102925.
