Pacma has recalled in a note that the Law for the Protection of Animals in the Canary Islands expressly prohibits it, but points out that there is a “normalization” of this type of infraction due to ignorance and because it is a situation that has been occurring “for years”.
Article 8 of the Law for the Protection of Animals in the Canary Islands reads: “Photographers are expressly prohibited from using animals as a claim on the streets, as well as the use of any type of pharmacological product or substance to modify the natural behavior of animals. used for photographic work.
The Animalist Party has indicated that it is unknown if the animals that appear in the photographs have ingested any type of drug, but their presence for days on the main streets of the northern city has drawn the attention of passers-by aware of the regulations.
Volunteers from the Animalist Party who witnessed the events claim to have contacted the Local Police to intervene in the event of an alleged serious infraction, without finally achieving the presence of the authorities and causing a confrontation with those responsible, who were scattered around different points of the center .
“It is necessary that the authorities are also available for the animals. In Tenerife it is rare that a single call manages to summon them; Repeated calls over several days and by several people are normally required for a case of alleged animal abuse to be addressed, and not only with parrots, but with any other matter that has to do with animals. This only delays the problem and aggravates it while the switchboards collapse,” says Pacma spokeswoman Yolanda Morales, who has filed a formal complaint with local authorities.
“It is not understood that these people have the security of committing infractions in public in areas where the presence of the police is relatively frequent, and that they still allow themselves the luxury of continuing with the activity,” Morales points out. “There is a visible problem here: either the regulations are unknown or they are consciously violated,” he concluded.
