Avocado thefts in Güímar do not stop despite the latest arrests
One of the arrests occurred a few months ago on a farm belonging to an Italian woman in the San Juan neighborhood / DA

The avocado thefts on farms of Guimar Valley They continue to be a constant, despite the fact that the arrests of the “friends of the alien” have increased through the Roca team of the Civil Guard. So far this year, more than a dozen thefts of this fruit have been reported, which thieves usually sell on the black market for three euros per kilo, approximately half the price of what is now found in a supermarket or greengrocer.

What surprises the farmers is how it is possible that once the alleged thieves are arrested, they are released, when for a theft of more than 400 euros, they already have a criminal record. There is enormous indignation among the owners of farms who also complain that they are not allowed to put security cameras on the fences that surround their property, almost always separated from the traffic of people and therefore exposed to insecurity.

Thousands of kilos have been stolen from different farms in the Güímar Valley / DA

The last arrest was carried out last week by agents of the Local Police and the Civil Guard Post of Güímar, who proceeded on Thursday to the arrest of IAG and AGC as alleged perpetrators of a crime against property inside a farm located on the side of the TF-61 road that connects the town of Güímar with El Puertito. The rapid intervention of the agents caused those now detained, who have several records for similar acts, to be caught red-handed and allowed the recovery of all the stolen fruits. As a result of the arrest, it was possible to relate these people as alleged perpetrators of other crimes committed in the municipality and who were being investigated by both police forces.

Avocado thefts have been taking place in Güímar for years, but also in the north of Tenerife and the island of La Palma, especially as a result of the increase in the price of the product, the most appreciated by thieves.
