SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 5 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The insular deputy secretary of the Tenerife PP, Lope Afonso, has affirmed that the popular “we are not resigned to having to wait until 2028 to find a solution to the collapse of the TF-5”.
This has been stated in a statement in which it adds that the PP “under no circumstances” can agree with the “resignation” conveyed by the statements of those responsible for Highways of the Cabildo” regarding the solution for the road.
“Both the Minister of Highways and the president of the Cabildo – he denounced – have an incomprehensible attitude for us, since after three and a half years with government responsibilities they have not been able to promote a single initiative that, effectively , would come to alleviate one of the main problems that Tenerife currently has: traffic collapses”.
Afonso stressed that “the island is paralyzed” and made special emphasis that “the search for solutions to the mobility situation in Tenerife cannot wait a second longer, since we are talking about a circumstance that seriously affects daily life of each and every one of the citizens of this island, in addition to the millions of visitors we receive each year”.
He also pointed out that “the citizens of Tenerife in general and those of the North in particular cannot be told that there is no other solution than waiting and resignation.”
Here, he added that “the only merit that this insular government has had in relation to mobility is to increase the frustration of users of private vehicles and public transport, who lose hours of their lives, every day, stuck on a highway.”
Given this circumstance, the PP demanded that “short-term measures be applied that can contribute to improving the situation of our roads, such as the measure that we proposed in the Cabildo to promote the use of public transport, making it free of charge, precisely in a time when it would not only be useful to get vehicles off the roads, but also to support many families in Tenerife who are currently going through a difficult economic time”.
