Arrested in Tenerife for driving with the identity of a co-worker and accumulating fines of 3,000 euros

The National Police has arrested in Santa Cruz de Tenerife a 23-year-old man, a native of La Laguna, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of usurpation of civil status by driving for more than three years with a vehicle in the name of another person.

The agents became aware of the facts when the affected party reported that they had received traffic fines and circulation taxes for a vehicle in Tenerife, when he had never been on the island nor was he the owner. He received notifications of sanctions for lacking compulsory insurance for a value of about 3,000 euros.

Thus, the National Police carried out the investigations that found ownership of the vehicle and traceability until locating the current user, a former co-worker of the victim. The affected commented that at the time they were partners he had lost his ID.

The author, who had no criminal record, had purchased the vehicle from a private individual and had given the victim’s details, posing as him during all this time for the purposes of notifications related to the vehicle, which could be shown to be in the island.

For this reason, he was located and detained, being placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority.
