The Círculo de Amistad XII de Enero hosts, this Friday, November 4, the concert ‘We sing for peace’, by the Carpe Diem choir of the Orfeón La Paz. The appointment will begin at 8:30 p.m., in the Main Hall of the company’s capital headquarters, located at 12 Ruiz de Padrón Street. Admission will be free until full capacity is reached.

The repertoire of songs on this occasion is made up of: ‘Córtame una rosa blanca’, PG Cabrera/D.Andreo; ‘I don’t want to die’, E.López/D. Andreo (Courtesy Coral Awara), ‘El juramento’, by M.Matamoros/Arr. E. Silva; ‘By your side’, MA Mena/J. Bust; ‘Yesterday’, J.Lennon/P.McCartney; ‘Happy together’, G. Bonner/A. Gordon/Arr. A. Snyder; and as common song ‘Dona Nobis Pacem,’ by WA Mozart.
The Carpe Diem Choir was born in the 1992-93 academic year at the IES Viera y Clavijo in La Laguna and is made up of teaching professionals. He has performed on all the islands of the archipelago, as well as in the rest of Spain, in Portugal, Argentina and Uruguay.
In its countless performances, Carpe Diem has performed music from all eras, from the Renaissance to the 21st century with its conductor and also under the occasional baton of other internationally renowned conductors. Since 2008 he has been invited to collaborate in the Participatory Concerts of the La Caixa Foundation together with the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and other prestigious international orchestras, with performances at the Guimerá Theater and the Adán Martín Auditorium.
He has taken part in the City of La Laguna Choral Encounter, in the Villa de La Orotava Christmas Choral Show and in other Christmas events on the island. In spring, on the occasion of its anniversary, the Choir organizes the traditional Carpe Diem Festival. In this festival, in addition to presenting a sample of the work of the whole year, the group invites other national and foreign musicians and ensembles to participate. He has released two records: ‘Verso a verso’ (2003), already out of print; and ‘Like a tree’ (2011), in which a tribute is paid to the poet Pedro García Cabrera.
Since its foundation, the Carpe Diem Choir has been directed by Luis Correa Díaz. Born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, he is part of the generation of directors that emerged around the Polyphonic Choir of the University of La Laguna. After studying at the Superior Conservatory of Music of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, he graduated in Art History from the University of La Laguna and completed his musical training with various courses: ‘Choral Direction’, ‘International Music Courses in Lleida’, ‘ Ancient Music’, ‘Gregorian Chant’, ‘Contemporary Choral Music’, ‘Vocal Jazz’, etc., as well as various vocal technique and choralography courses.

Secondary school teacher, Luis Correa has achieved a revitalization and renewal of the island’s choral repertoires. He has released four records: ‘Verso a verso’ and ‘Como un arbol’, both with Carpe Diem, in addition to ‘Unum Cor’ produced by the CCPC and ‘Romancero Gitano’ by Rafael Guigou.
