SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –
This November, Tenerife will host two new events on the Spartan calendar, which will attract more than 2,700 participants of different nationalities, mainly Spain, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Italy.
On the 19th and 20th the Spartan Race obstacle course will take place in Puerto de la Cruz, while Adeje will host the DEKA the previous weekend (November 12 and 13), focused on fitness.
The insular director of Tourism, Laura Castro, highlighted that in this edition the average number of women participating in both tests is around 40 percent. “This not only has to be said, it has to be believed. In some events, women make up 50 percent of the total number of participants and this not only helps to make female talent visible and create benchmarks, but also to boost leadership and empower women. the woman,” he stressed.
Laura Castro also stressed that the budget for sports tourism has been increased during this mandate. “We want to be part of that collective imagination that thinks of Tenerife as an island to discover because of its nature, its landscapes, its gastronomy or its culture, but also because we are the best outdoor sports venue in the world,” she added.
For his part, the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, David Pérez, wanted to recall that the Spartan Race “is one of the most internationally known sporting events, with hundreds of thousands of followers on its social networks and broadcast channels, which makes it profitable the promotion of the destination with respect to its possibilities in the field of active tourism, including in the United States, the country of origin of the Spartan”.
David Pérez added that in addition to “the direct impact on Tenerife, with thousands of participants, often accompanied by family and friends, it represents a high-impact international promotion campaign, segmented only to objective profiles with specific interests and tastes in sport and nature” .
The mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Marco González, thanked the Cabildo for “the commitment to decentralize the sporting events that take place on the island, understanding that Tenerife is all of us”, and emphasized “the importance of this test to promote the positioning and the promotion of Puerto de la Cruz, a very lively city in which the participants will be able to enjoy unique landscapes and gastronomy and in which we have taken care of every detail so that the result is an unforgettable experience with the consequent economic impact on the sectors linked to tourism and restoration”.
The general director of Spartan Race Spain, Ángel Sanz, valued the increase in the number of participants, with more than 2,700 people registered, and assured that, “between participants and companions, we estimate that these two weekends will travel to the island about 8,000 people a week”.
In the same way, he highlighted the thrust and growth that the Spartan DEKA is experiencing, “a fitness-oriented competition in a circuit format in which female participation reaches 50 percent.”
The Spartan calendar in Tenerife opened its season last April in Caseríos de Anaga with one of its three events, the Spartan Trail. The competition will now continue on November 12 and 13 with the Spartan DEKA, which includes three modalities: DEKA FIT, made up of ten functional exercises interspersed with 500-meter race sections (5 kilometers in total); the DEKA MILE, composed of ten functional exercises interspersed with 160-meter race sections (1.6 kilometers in total); and the DEKA STRONG, which includes ten functional exercises without running.
Finally, the Spartan Race will return to the island on November 19 and 20 in all its modalities and distances: Sprint (5 kilometers, 20 obstacles), Super (10 kilometers Super, 25 obstacles) and Beast (21 kilometers, 30 obstacles ). The test will be held in Puerto de la Cruz, although part of its route will also go into La Orotava.
The realization of this race reaches an outstanding media repercussion, both in the media (television, radio or specialized press), and in social networks, where the different Spartan Race profiles in Europe are around one million followers. Last year, in fact, the media impact was above 2 million euros.
This test is, therefore, a unique opportunity to publicize the multiple locations and possibilities that Tenerife offers and to become a reference destination in the Spartan world in particular and in the world of sporting events in general.
