The Council of Tenerife has awarded the contract for the execution of the improvement and paving project for the rural road Lomo de Los Celajes, in the municipality of La Guancha, for a value of 476,764 euros. The improvement works, which will be carried out by the company Construccion y Asfaltos Los Hormigas de Tacoronte, are intended, according to the island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, to “increase the safety of the road and the route in the area of Santa Catalina, which has complicated access to the general highway, while it will favor access to the sea in the Charco del Viento area.
The insular official indicates that “The erosion caused by the rains and the traffic of vehicles has caused the road to be in very poor condition,” and ensures through this project “some 23.6 hectares of banana crops and family orchards will benefit directly and indirectly.” Parrilla points out that it is a road with steep slopes, with 22 curves of variable length and radius and 850 meters of layout, “although only a third of its route is paved,” he indicates.
The works, which have an execution period of 11 months, include the simplification and extension of the curves, the increase in the width of the road to four meters, the construction of four sidings and the paving of 3,825 square meters of surface with a layer 25 centimeters thick. The walls of the routes will be made of concreted masonry, which will allow the roadway to gain in firmness and durability, lay-bys will be marked, priority of passage and stop will be enabled, and metal-wood safety barriers will be installed, with a limitation speed of 20 kilometers per hour.
