Tenerife passes the cut to be the headquarters of the state investigation agencies

Tenerife has complied with all the requirements of the Government of Spain to opt to be the headquarters of the state research agencies, the Space Agency and the Artificial Intelligence Supervision Agency. The term to present candidacies is still open and ends next Monday, the 7th. The Island awaits the favorable report of the Canary Islands Governmentwhich will endorse his aspiration and define priorities if there are two regional candidates, after the Governing Council this Thursday.

Airports, universities, connections, public transport, enclaves for physical location… Everything is ready and the Island has passed the court pending the decision of the State Executive. A resource from Aragon to include Teruel, which does not comply, could delay the decision on the Space Agency, to which Gran Canaria also opts and Fuerteventura is in doubt; that of Artificial Intelligence could be known at the end of this month, although the maximum term is three from Monday.

The Council of Ministers approved on October 4, and it was published in the BOE the following day, the criteria to determine the location of the headquarters of the future Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence (Aesia) and the Spanish Space Agency (AEE), procedures initiated in the month of September.

Royal Decree 209/2022 had approved on March 22 the procedure for determining the physical headquarters of public entities and created the Advisory Commission to make the decision. It is chaired by the Minister of Territorial Policy, Isabel Rodríguez. The objective is “to make effective the constitutional and legal principles of functional and territorial deconcentration, effectiveness and efficiency.” The commission had to prepare the report with the criteria to determine the physical location of the new entity. On September 29, the opinion was approved.

The Autonomous Communities and local entities have one month from the publication in the BOE, which is due next Monday, to submit their applications electronically. It will be positively valued that the candidate territories present a report from the autonomous community supporting their suitability and have a favorable business and university ecosystem.

Within a maximum period of three months, the locations that will host the two new agencies must be known. For now, 17 territories compete for Artificial Intelligence, including Tenerife. To the Spatial, 16, among them, for the moment, this Island and Gran Canaria. The Cabildo de Fuerteventura also announced it on the 21st, but presented it after the deadline, in principle. The initial agreement established that if there was more than one candidacy belonging to the same autonomous community, it would be valued if they had a report from the Government of the region, to be approved by the Governing Council, before sending it to the State. Tenerife awaits that guarantee report at this Thursday’s appointment.

Deadline

The Government of the Canary Islands determined that on October 20 the deadline for the Cabildos that had shown, prior plenary agreement, interest in participating in the selection process. Fuerteventura would be left out, but you can present the candidacy without the endorsement of the regional Executive.

Aragón announces an upcoming resource, as Teruel was left out in the process to host the headquarters of the Supervisory Agency of the discipline that intends to apply the intelligence of the human being through robotics and computing. Teruel’s capital lacks an AVE connection and concludes that it is due to the Government, which left it out of that possibility. This could cause a delay, which would not affect the Space Agency, whose headquarters are likely to be known this month. Be that as it may, Tenerife is ready after passing the cut.
