The island of La Graciosa appears for the first time in the Canary Islands budgets corresponding to 2023 with an item of 3.1 million in compliance with what is included in the new Statute of Autonomy and its consideration as the eighth island of the archipelago.
“It is a relevant and symbolic act,” the Vice President of the Government and Minister of the Treasury, Román Rodríguez, explained to journalists when reporting on the bill in Parliament, stressing that this item will be used mainly for the pipe that supplies water to the island and various sanitation works.
With respect to the rest of the islands, Tenerife is in the lead with 269.4 million, 15.3% of the total and 22.9% less than this year, followed by Gran Canaria, with 248.9 million, 14 .1%, with a rise of 20%.
La Palma is placed in third position with 126.7 million, 7.2% of the total for the archipelago and 31.5% more than this year.
Rodríguez has denied that this item is scarce for the island despite its economic needs derived from the volcanic eruption, stressing that it has another additional 160 million in the budgets and that Lanzarote, with half the population, remains at 123.3 million , 7% of the total and 28.9% more than in 2022.
Fuerteventura reaches 106.6 million, 6% of the accounts, which implies 27.4% more; La Gomera is close to 77.4 million, 4.4% and 26.1% more and El Hierro is at the bottom with 37.9 million, 2.2% which implies an increase of 22.1%.
In addition, investment abroad increased by 33.6% to slightly exceed four million euros, while investment in various islands reached 766.3 million, 30.1% more than this year.
In total, the territorialized investment chapter amounts to 376.9 million, 27.2% more than this year.
