The ALDI supermarket chain, of German origin, has just landed in Fuerteventura with a new commercial area in the capital of Fuerteventura. Canarian Carmen Toubes, senior executive of the company in the Archipelago, is responsible for executing the company’s expansion plan in the islands. In just four months she has managed to open eight stores, between Tenerife, Gran Canaria and now, Fuerteventura.
ALDI has been open stores in the archipelago for nearly four months, how has the arrival in the Canary Islands been?
The company carries more than twenty years in Spain and for a long time we wanted to enter Canarian homes. We have already opened eight stores, between Tenerife, Gran Canaria
and now too Fuerteventuraand we are very satisfied with our landing in Canary Islands. The Canarian families have welcomed our arrival with great interest and desire to
know our products. In fact, after the first weeks of opening our stores, 63% of the Canary Islands are aware of the ALDI brand. In addition, 18% have already bought in our stores at some time and even one in four has repeated and has gone several times to our supermarkets.
And now in Fuerteventura…?
That’s how it is. The supermarket is located in La Hondura, on the outskirts of Puerto del Rosario, specifically on Calle El Palangre, no. 4 corner with El Bote street, no. 2. It is a store with magnificent entrances and has 111 parking spaces, four of them with chargers for electric vehicles. It has a sales room of nearly 1,300 square meters where customers can find a careful selection of products, many of them from our own brands, which is one of the reasons for the success of our purchase option.
“Our stores, like the one on the island, are sustainable and respectful of the environment”
Is this store sustainable and respectful of the environment?
Sustainability is part of our commitment to all our processes. That is why our new supermarkets, such as the one in Puerto del Rosario, for example, have solar panels that allow us to take advantage of nearly one hundred percent of the energy generated for consumption by the store itself. They also have LED lighting and home automation, and use CO2 as refrigerant gas, a more affordable alternative. sustainable and efficient than other options available on the market. On the other hand, for years we have been developing sustainable practices with regard to the products we sell and working to reduce our impact on the environment by implementing improvements in own-brand packaging that reduce the plastic footprint. We plan that by 2025 all our packaging will be recyclable, compostable or reusable.
What are the future plans of the company in the Canary Islands?
With the newly opened store in Fuerteventura, there will already be eight stores that we will have opened in the Canary Islands, where more than 220 people already work. Our intention is to continue
developing our expansion plan in the archipelago, an ambitious plan that will lead us to open 20 stores and create more than 400 jobs in the next three years. Our intention is to continue maintaining our commitment to the Canary Islands, through our own brand , high quality products at the best possible price. In short, we will continue working to become the trusted supermarket for Canarian families, an establishment where they can make their weekly purchases.
