SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 31 Oct. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife, through Turismo de Tenerife, has participated in the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM), the most important golf tourism fair for professionals in the travel sector in the world and which this year took place in the city from Rome.

The island’s director of Tourism of the Cabildo, Laura Castro, explains that, under the umbrella of Tourism of the Canary Islands, they have come with the aim of showing the qualities of the island as a golf destination to the specialized tour operators present at the meeting and continue to establish themselves ” as one of the most important golf destinations in Europe”.

In this sense, Castro recalls in a note that golf is closely linked to quality tourism.

“In fact, this traveler profile invests 34 percent more in the destination, which is why Tenerife Tourism continues to work to attract major golf events to the island, emphasizing our excellent infrastructure, our accommodation facilities, our climate or our gastronomy so that visitors can enjoy an unforgettable experience”, he points out.

The CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, David Pérez, assures that “the insular golf infrastructure is one of the main added values of the leisure offer and represents a significant volume of income for the destination throughout the value chain”.

Currently, he indicates, “we promote the golf offer and all of its transversality in the North American market and also in the steps that we are taking in our seeding strategy in Eastern markets, the World Golf Corporate Challenge, which will continue with us for another season, and the next Pro Golf Tour to be held on the island, are two good examples of how the Cabildo, through Turismo de Tenerife, encourages and promotes the island’s offer of golf products”.

The delegation from Tenerife held more than 300 work meetings with specialized travel companies such as Golfbreaks, Your Golf Travel, Pin High Golf, GolfExclusive, Golf Globe or Golf Extra.

The island representation was made up, in addition to Tenerife Tourism technicians, of a dozen hotel establishments and golf courses associated with this entity, dependent on the Cabildo, such as Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife, Meliá Hotels, Hotel Suite Villa Maria, Tecina Golf , Hotel Jardín Tecina, Golf Costa Adeje, Terrazas de Abama, Abama Golf, The Ritz-Carlton Abama and H10 Atlantic Sunset Hotel.

THE SALE OF ‘GREEN FEES’ GROWS BY 73.2%

According to the data analyzed by the Tenerife Tourism Research Department, the ‘green fees’ (gambling rights) sold in the first half of 2022 on the island amounted to 187,245, 73.2 percent more than in the same period of the previous year, and almost 5 percent more than from January to June 2019, before the pandemic.

76 percent of the gaming rights sold correspond to non-residents (142,652), more than double that in 2021. The two main nationalities of players are British and German.

The Tourist Expenditure Survey of the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics for the first six months of this year, and which collects the response of tourists who claim to have played golf during their stay, reveals that 2.2 percent of tourism over 16 years that he visited Tenerife he played golf, which translates into 50,732 players, three times more than in the same period in 2021.
