The 2022-2023 cruise season in the ports dependent on the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife begins to unfold in all its breadth this Novemberwith 127 cruise ship stopovers planned for the global ports, twenty more than in November 2019, the pre-covid year.
More in detail, the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife equals this month, with 65 scales confirmed to date, those registered in 2019 and grows, notably, those planned in other ports in the province such as those of La Palma (from 28 to 34), La Gomera (19 compared to on November 13, 2019) and La Estaca (8 scales).
Thus, during November it will be usual to enjoy in our ports days with three and four ships sharing berth, even coming to coincide in Santa Cruz de Tenerife five ships, on Saturday 5, Wednesday 23 and Friday 25.
Sunday days with cruise ships in port are also recovered, highlighting for this purpose Sunday the 13th when four ships coincide in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, specifically the Arcadia, Mein Schiff3, Spirit of Adventure and La Belle des Oceans, in port of eight of the morning to six in the evening.
Encouraging data
For the president of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Carlos González, “it is encouraging to see how this sector has been reactivated, which through our ports will support island tourism development and, therefore, will have a positive impact on the economic activity of the capital”. “At Puertos de Tenerife we continue to work, among other lines of action, to increase base port operations and promote the ports of La Palma, La Gomera and La Estaca, especially among luxury shipping companies,” he adds.
For the first week of the month there are, as of today, 13 confirmed scales, distributed from Tuesday to Sunday. Representative will be on Saturday the 5th with the joint docking of the Queen Victoria, Mein Schiff4, Star Clipper, Azura and World Voyager, the latter two with an operational base port. It should be remembered that this base port activity means that passengers begin and end their voyages through the Atlantic area from the port of Tenerife, embarking and disembarking there.
Eight that repeat operative
In addition to the Azura and the aforementioned World Voyager, the AidaNova, Marella Discovery, Marella Explorer, La Belle des Oceans, MS Hamburg, Mein Schiff Herz and Europa join this operation in our port, in addition to the MSC Magnifica since it began operating in Tenerife last September. A total of eight ships that are regulars at our ports and that repeat operations with the confidence of the quality of the services provided.
Tenerife offers the appropriate conditions for efficient base port operations thanks to its status as a Schengen port and exceptional air connectivity with direct flights to a hundred airports in 33 countries. All this together with having three passenger terminals with all the services associated with the embarkation/disembarkation of cruise passengers.
A very luxurious ship
Among the first stops this month is that of the ship Evrima, which will call at Tenerife as a port of call for a journey that will start in Barcelona next Tuesday, November 1 and will take it, among other enclaves, to Malaga and Tangier. The ship is a luxury vessel with a length of 190 meters and a beam of 23 meters, shedding 25,401 gross registered tons. Completed this year, it belongs to the Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection, of the hotel chain of the same name that has already entered the cruise sector.
An example of the luxury it offers is the fact that with a capacity for 298 passengers, its number of crew members reaches 246, which represents a ratio of almost one crew member per passenger.
Closing Forecast
The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife currently has a forecast for the end of this year of 711 cruise ship stopovers, a figure that, however, could vary at the expense of any change by the shipping companies. Of this total, between January and August, 361 stopovers with 328,281 tourists had already been registered, leaving 350 until the end of the year.
By ports, it is expected that by the end of the year there will have been 380 calls in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 207 in La Palma, 95 in La Gomera, 26 in the Herreño port of La Estaca and three in Los Cristianos, in the Tenerife municipality of Arona. Given that the capacity of the cruise ships has not yet been defined and each shipping company is gradually increasing it on each trip, it is not yet feasible to give a closed figure for passenger movement forecasts until the end of the year.
It should be remembered that the Port Authority of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is part of Cruises Atlantic Islands (CAI), MedCruise, an entity that brings together 21 countries in Europe, Africa and America through 130 international ports and collaborates in initiatives sectorial entities of the sector such as the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).
